Locate iWeb on your laptop. By default it is located on the dock. If it is not on the dock, use the 'Finder' to locate iWeb (it will be in your applications folder).
After opening iWeb, you will be prompted to select a templete from either the 1.0 theme set or the 2.0 theme set.
Select the page from the templete set you have chosen that you want to be your 'home page.'After you have selected your home page, you will notice that the site organizer on the left side of your screen shows your site named 'Site' and underneath it is the title of the page you selected to be your home page. At this point, we need to rename your site with your first initial, last name. For example: Wayne Dyer would rename his site 'wdyer '. Only those sites listed with with first initial last name will be allowed all others are subject to being removed. You can also use the 'inspector' tool located in the bottom right corner of the iWeb window. To actually rename your site, move the mouse curser over the word 'site.' Once the cursor is over the word site, press and hold the CTRL key followed by the click button (mouse pad). You will now have the option to rename your page.To add pages to your site Press the 'Apple' key followed by the 'N' key or select:
-File
-New page
The basic editing of your page is fairly straight foward. On your pages you will place text, images, and eventually video.
Text
Input text by selecting the option for text located at the bottom left corner of the window. Once the option for text has been selected, a small text box will appear in the center of your screen. It may be hard to see, look for the flashing cursor.
The initial text box is small, and most likely will need to be resized. To resize your text box, deselect your text box by clicking away from the text box, then click the text box that you want to resize. You will know when you are able to edit your text box because it will have 8 small squares around it. At this point you can edit the size by selecting one of the smaller boxes and dragging until you have your desired size. You can also move the text box by dragging the text box while the small squares are visible.
Now that you can edit basic text, we can move on to adding hyperlinks. A hyperlink is a selection of text or image, that when clicked directs a person to another webpage, document, or image. To add a hyperlink to your page, select/highlight a section of text or an image. Once you have selected your text or your image, open the inspector tool located at the bottom right corner of the iWeb window. At the top of your inspector tool, you will notice seven icons. The last icon on the right of this toolbar will be your "links" menu. This will allow you to enable the selected image or text as a hyperlink as well as input the url (website address) that you would like the hyperlink to point to.
Images/video/Audio
To place images and video on your page, select the 'media' option located on the bottom right side of your iWeb window. You will notice that you have the option to work with audio as well as images and video.
Before we start, your computer will look for media in specific places. Images will be selected from iPhoto or Aperture, audio from Garage Band, and video from iMovie. Besure to save all files not generated on your Macbook laptop to the specified folders. If you need help, please notify a member of your tech committee or contact me.
Placing these on your page is as simple as dragging the selected file(s) from the media window to your page. Once the file is on your page, you may move the file to any specific location on your page. Remember, select anything that is not currently selected, click away from that file or text box, then click on that select file or text box. you will know when you can edit due to the 8 small boxes outlining your file or text box.
Note: The smaller you make your video or image place holders, the better their quality will be.
Placing your information on the server (putting it on the internet)
Now that you have created your site with its various pages, we can place your information on the internet for students and parents to view. In order to place your information online, there are several quick and easy steps that you must take.
Mount your Home Folder: To mount a network drive on a Mac, open the "Finder" window. Once you have the finder open, select the "Go" menu option. Under the Go option, select "Connect to Server," which is the last option. The shortcut to doing that is to select press "apple + k".
You can click on your desktop to select finder (be sure the word finder is displayed by the blue apple in the top left corner of your window) and press the "apple key + k." The server that you want to connect to is xserve.bakerschools.org
Once you have selected the option to connect to a server, you need to verify your user name and password. If you do not know what your username and passwords are, please contact a member of your tech committee or contact Wayne Dyer.
Now that you have provided your username and password, you need to select the sites folder located in your home folder. Your folder will have the same name as your username.
After mounting your home folder, you will notice an icon on your desktop. It should look like this:
