|
On March 2nd and 3rd the Baker Upper Elementary Mixed Choir was the special guest of the Louisiana School Boards Association. The group, consisting of 4th and 5th graders from Park Ridge Elementary School, performed by invitation for the association's annual state conference held at the Crowne Plaza Convention Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On the 2nd they performed in the open exhibit area; on the 3rd they performed in the premier ballroom for the 2nd general session.
School boards from across the state along with their superintendents were present. The general session was also attended by the regional and national officers of the organization. The choir showed their talents and versatility by singing a wide variety of songs from contemporary pop to patriotic, inspirational and gospel. They sang with confidence and discipline. The group received three standing ovations.
"High five” to the entire group, Mr. Carter, Mrs. Baldwin and the staff of Park Ridge that assisted in the organization and preparation of the choir. Thanks are also in order for Mr. Parker for selecting the music, training the choir and organizing the live band to accompany along with director Mr. Deandrea Tate, a recent Southern University graduate and certified music teacher. We also acknowledge the professional assistance of Baker's Human Resources Supervisor, Mr. David Timoll on electric bass and La Live's own Mr. Erik Parker on drums. The choir will resume practice after state testing. Other performances including a spring concert could be possible.
