BMS Band Spring Concert

The Baker Middle School Department of Bands presented its annual spring concert at 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2011 in the school's auditorium. The program featured both the beginning and advanced bands performing under the capable direction of Mr. Tory Williams, conductor.

The concert highlights included the works of composers Sean O'Loughlin, Paul Lavender, Michael Sweeny, Samuel Hazo and Steve Hodges as well as the original music of Maestro Williams, himself.

The beginning band led the way in opening a seven selection series from the warm up down to the original tune "Rock It” by Mr. Williams. The band played with a full and robust sound, clearly reflecting the steady and significant progress they have achieved under the leadership of Mr. Williams.

The advanced band followed, taking the concert to the next level, displaying their well-developed musicianship, versatility and technical readiness for the high school band experiences that are soon to come.

From beginning to end this program, from classics to contemporary renditions, was a well-rounded one that thoroughly held the audience captive and entertained.

Present among the administration, faculty, staff, family and friends of the band students were Baker School Board President and Vice-President, Dr. Dana Carpenter and Mrs. Elaine Davis, respectively. Accompanying Mrs. Davis was the former Baker Mayor, Dr. Leroy Davis and representing the school system central office was Supervisor, Mr. Everrett Parker. Mr. Trent Johnson, former Baker High School Band Director and teacher/mentor of Mr. Williams, was also a special guest.

The evening concluded with the band playing some spirited music to transition the audience into the weekend, eagerly anticipating the next school year when all students advance to the next level in experience, technique and musicianship.
