Baker Middle Art Students Go On Art Excursion

Baker Middle School students attended a field trip to an art museum on March 9th, sponsored by art teacher Donna Barrere. 44 students went to the Ogden Museum of Southern Art located in the warehouse district of New Orleans. (Museum admission is free on Thursdays for La residents!)

The bus trip was long, but students learned about landforms along the way, such as swamps, the Bonne Carre Spillway, Lake Ponchartrain, the Superdome, and Lee Circle. Sharp eyes were able to pick out the eagle’s nest in the swamp area approaching Metairie. At the museum, they viewed and discussed art by southern artists, including abstract art, photography, and art by self-taught artists. Students enjoyed lunch at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, where they rode the carousel and shared a meal. A good time was had by all.
