James "J.C." Stewart Memorial Scholarship Awarded

Coach Stewart worked at Baker High School from 1968 until he retired in 1986.  He served as Head Football coach from 1970 to 1986.  His most memorable season was 1973, in which he led the buffaloes to the Louisiana State Semi-finals.   He loved to coach; however, he was more concerned about his player’s education after high school.  Coach Stewart passed away in 1990 but before he died, his lovely wife, Mrs. Betty Lou Stewart started a scholarship in his name that same year.  This award is given annually to a senior football player who has the highest cumulative G.P.A.   This year marks the 27th year a Baker High student/athlete has received this award, and again, Cameron Heil is this year’s recipient of the James "J.C." Stewart Memorial Scholarship Fund.  We would like to thank Mrs. Stewart for both supporting Baker High School and keeping her husband’s vision alive here, at Baker High School.
