On Friday, October 26, 2018, 25 ninth grade Baker High School students ventured to AMC Theaters at the Mall of Louisiana to view the movie The Hate U Give. The film is based on the novel of the same title by Angie Thomas. In the film, high school student Starr, witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what is right. Students will analyze the film through writing and discussion in their English I class.
