Youth Legislature 2019

On March 25 and 26, 2019, nine students from Park Ridge Academic Magnet School participated in a two day statewide Youth Legislature sponsored by Boys and Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge.  This event was held at the Old State Capitol. Youth Legislature is a middle school program that introduces students to the Louisiana legislative process. Students and their teachers across the state received training guides and practiced the bill making process and how the legislative process works.  Middle school Social Studies teachers, Amer Bright and John Lee accompanied and prepared the students for Youth Legislature

Students who participate in Youth Legislature receive classroom instruction and participate in a mock legislative session.  They elected a Governor as well as House and Senate officers. They sponsored, debated and voted on bills that have been drafted by their fellow legislators as well as lead and serve on legislative committees and speak publicly before an audience.

Students from Park Ridge met and networked with students from other parishes to elect their statewide officials. Five students from PRAMS were inducted into the Hall of Fame.  They are Rashad Clark, Jefferi Lawson, Chelsea Durham, Brayden Hills and Andre Pikes.  On Friday, March 29, 2019, boys from Park Ridge were invited to the state Press Club downtown for a lunch session with business and community leaders for their performance and participation. Robert House attended the luncheon.
