good evening everybody I hope everybody is staying as much as possible I would like to call today's meeting of the city of Baker School boards to Otter if there is a member of the public would like to make a public comment regarding a particular agenda item we ask that you request a comment card from mrs. Schroeder on the buses I noticed last year that a lot of the buses came in 25 minutes on the lot of the students sitting on the bus that long in the morning so I guess this year since we have changed to Pink it should make sure to be sitting on the bus that's a long time in the morning so they don't love somebody go to bus stop so that was my concern on the bus situation when I see here I see the carpool I read that but also time to school it's different for the different campuses because of the buses running so I know the first bell rings since the high school 704 that's correct that's not the first one that starts at what time 7:37 and height it would be the third start time I think they're 8 what is it 80805 what is it ATM those with first Baker Middle will be 7:15 I believe will probably adjust that this year because we have one last campus that we have to travel to so those times will probably be adjusted very good point of order attorney clear when making a motion to approve are to consider these following policies that's the person making the motion need to recite all these again for the record Drake the Motion based on Federation 558 Route 25A okay wonderful okay alrighty any other board member questions about the appointment in consideration of policy I just have a comment I would like for the board members to have a cheat sheet with information like the time that school starts and all that kind of information that would be very beneficial to the board members very good but I will get back to you and we're still working out we're still honing in on the number of minutes to meet state requirements so that's why that ironed out over the next few days will send that out when we haven't asked him any of the comment board members okay I would like emotion for the consideration and approval of the following policies and we were pretty much directed by our attorney as to how to make that motion Donita motion by motion for the consideration 520h is it 5 a.m. aa5838 h k second already very good we have a motion by missus profits for consideration and approval of the following policies by the a through H and asset from Ms Butler I will call for the vote his profit yes Jesus Burgess yes Miss Butler is it Joseph and his African yes thank you lady okay we have our next agenda item consideration and approval change orders for the Baker High School construction project are there any comments from the public okay I would like to recommend as a board member that this you have a couple options we can record I can recommend that this agenda item is table to the next meeting or you we can go through line by line and you can eliminate for another time what do you think should be taken out and approved the everything else all weekend just table it until the next meeting so in your consideration of emotion those are my recommendation I make a motion that we table number 6 in high school project work on change orders at this time indefinitely because we need some specific because I checked on some things out before the law and we are out of these are my reasons why and some things that I understand I checked in there is a list of Dominique and I ask a question who is that I've never seen one of the project manager cuz I don't know who he is those are the kinds of people we need to ask for 54th Street who they are and they need to be here because we can't yeah that's I agree. You definitely need to meet Mister Dominique Willard he is with the architecture and we are tentatively setting a meeting to meet with them and I will let you know when that we were there so you made your motion I need a second we have a motion from mrs. Joseph to table this change order until there's a meeting of everyone involved so that the boys would have clear understanding can I say something real quick what are some things in here like temporary fence required for football games that we actually asked football games that start September 1st, so if you table this we may not get copy why do we have and I'm shocked because Gifford if work is going on that's that's that's a lawsuit waiting to happen somebody gets hurt that phone on so I'm just thinking what would we used to do with this in this is just a suggestion and neighboring people are very accommodating another school if they are not clean they do glasses while I want and they were charging them for everything keeping the money at the gate Panama used to feel and all that I understand when it says to put the what type of pills was it today I remember you saying that it was canceled everything with nobody to go around but taken down and throwing away I'm sorry we don't have that kind of money just for a game but what three games how many days three only thing I want to say is in your deliberations about this our community is sports binder and we have got to make a decision as a relates to like not September 1st because that's some games. I do know that the high school people have discussed you know either having it have a neighboring School are other options but this year is what we have been left with and so we need you guys need to think about what you want to do because at this point it's kind of late it was very late as I recall about three months back three or four months back before the football schedule came out I spoke with also myself and the response I got from her from her was very negative but my thing is is a big liability regardless of paying for a temporary fence and just to go up on a construction site. And if we just walking on they're going different areas the things that we have to have on I had the steel toe boots and everything but my thing is for a game I think we still should have checked around and I was offering to check because I had talked to someone in reference to leadership feel and they was not if they went over there and talked to Cleo or someone else I don't know but I'm sure that would then other people there to help us mr. decuir looks like fencing separate table everything but the same I agree if the painting is left in you still have the liability or some or something happening because when you have a game you can say you have a sense of all you want children or everywhere Pimsleur everywhere and I just Saudi riyal I have an answer to this during construction that construction company actually owns the site and the construction company has their own risk and liability insurance because they own the site during construction this is the record Nation from the construction company on what they need to cover their risk of liability for accessing games during football season that is that is for it we all going to be the same side the visitors and the home team will be all on the same side no one's to be on the side where the construction is going on the office they do make sure that everybody's you can't even come around in that area and I understand what you say but the $7,000 would it be a problem we love that was the direction that I gave to Administration back in the spring I'm my understanding what they they have located about three places but there were there were certain parameters of my lawn with all three of those places that were tough for the the school to live with I would say that that's that's my really within your scope of authority as a board I mean you can certainly vote on this and you know if it doesn't go through then the school will have to go back to the drawing board on figuring out where to play games but in terms of of trying to find another place at the wait a day and I think that's going to be extremely difficult where my motion is still on the floor I was Thunder I said we need to table it and now you are whatever you want to do that's fine but that's I do believe it needs to be table but I also would like to say that I think the coach says that's his job that he should have been involved in finding a place to play and it should have already been done and like I said you know we as a board it shouldn't be put on our backs that they didn't do their job to go find a place and now they know this is all the next month they played the first game and they don't have any so that's the problem that they have that they need to have them well I can did all the places and they did find things that were totally a little bit more expensive as a relates to our sports team they did do the search and they also checked out the construction site and spoke with the construction crew and this is the package that they've given up and it's it's five games the risk is basically on the construction crew and I know it's expensive but you take what's the way from this Baker going to have something it's not that you're taking it away but we are so late in making this decision, have some of the hits they talked to me about it so there were there were districts that would let us use the field for free but they wanted to keep the gate where they were districts that would give us the gate but wanted to keep the concessions District at one of the charge a fee ultimately you know there's going to be a cost to the district so it's either going to be a $7,000 cost for a security fence or we're going to lose gate and and a similar amount or the things that they were trying to and also if something like if if we make a substitute motion why don't we ask the construction crew to pay for the season I wouldn't have a problem with that but my concern I still have a concern in reference to the insurance in the liability of the constructions who because I have her different things and I would definitely need that to be verified before I would vote on anything dealing with the where they would play at on May 1st a happy cuz I don't actually been verified with Jason Caitlin who's the construction manager multiple times over the last few months that the site is owned by Stewart and Company during construction and they have their own liability risk and liability insurance that covers that which is why they when someone comes on the site they want you coming to the to the building first because they own the site and they own the risk and liability insurance and I can understand you saying that but I'd like to see if we can get that emotional someone will make a substitute motion yes I will that we go ahead and table Danielle's but I would like to go ahead and put the fence up at the high school cuz you don't have the one month left and let's just go to just said that we won't be loud and I was in the meeting when they said everybody's going to be on the same side not to be we not going on the construction side at all and it's definitely a lot for the construction This was put into effect with the new coach Lortabs along with the police the police force doctor Russell and everybody who's who's who's running the store and they say that it would be safe to play but like I say if you don't bathe them gain automatically lose football season for least two to three years double map so that would be considered a sport so what y'all trying to pay for this to September 1st if the football just don't hurt your football program do you know when the first first game of the date I can find out before y'all leave with that Friday I think it's the first if Friday is September 1st what we don't have board meetings over I know but the reason I'm asking is if if the board members who vote to keep the change water table to change order as it is if the board members who voted to table the change order do they are quick identification as to finding somewhere else then we could still come back right. We're in a special meeting very soon very quickly and and go ahead like this vote again we can do that the only thing I'm asking is the board members who voted to extend a change order do your homework and do it quick I have a statement to if I'm not mistaken that is not the scope of work for the board members and I have already suggested that the coach who has the football team then you need to does that you need to speak with and make sure that they do this because if you do not then what is the solution I mean here we are again making to see and there are no Solutions so we have got to find solution for this vote that was just made and you got to find it quick that's the only thing I'm saying but we I know this we can come back as soon as this week we can come back early next week and we can redo this boat because our community depends on the sport they love it this is almost the lifeblood of the city of Baker why students are concerned so think about it get in touch with your people. Perkins yes the motion to carry the motion carries for the consideration and are the 2020 pupil progression plan thank you Doctor smothers and your committee for well drawn-out plan okay next information of course during this time there are no Vote or public commentary with the stroller so I just want you to know that we're currently in the process of working with bless you on attendance policies ladder protocol they're going to be at the September board meeting I want to talk about it at this one but they asked me to hold off so they could do a press release from a whole lot working on a partnership bless you for attendance are our first biggest issue in the district was having qualified teachers in the classroom in her second biggest issues is having students actually in the classrooms so that's something that would take a very serious this next year we're also partnering with the Louisiana Workforce Commission and they're actually here tonight so I'm going to turn it over to them if they'd like to for a few minutes just kind of talk about what they want to do with our students yes fifty first of all just say good evening in eating it my name is Charles Robertson I am not with the Louisiana Workforce Commission I am a vendor with the Louisiana Workforce Commission which is the Louisiana rehabilitation services which we work with students with IEPs and 5 and so drunk Services is the vendor and basically we broke Services what we do is work with we provide wraparound services for the hotel also the whole family so take for hamsters that we're working with the child and basically we map out the plans for that student we also can't help that student if we don't help the family so basically when we're working with take me home to the family may need light bill assistance so I don't hear quarter we basically referred the family to get that they may need work for us we have a we ought to wrap it was cool Department of Education we offer Hospitality for the give you my background I was one of those students in high school and also in elementary middle school but was able to meet two individuals two Caucasian individuals who took me under their wings paid for me to go to Southern University and I end up going from there to be the vice president of Copper Mountain Ski Resort and then the vice president Copper Mountain Ski Resort for 22 years and also work the Royal Lahaina in Maui run running that basically retired came back along with my wife and we built out a private parts that works with students and also work with families we also a full-time Clinic that also have counselors that are located certified counselors that are located that also work with the families and work with the Camellias so basically that's what Pro Services go Services stand for generous opportunities with tenacious help and so we believe in helping the individuals get where they need to be I'm going to turn it over to coordinate because Courtney would be obvious all that would be the individual who is be at Baker High School she would be the person on the ground full-time working with those students from that perspective hello Peabody this is Altman as Mr Robertson said I will be on the ground as the Prius counselor for the services that we want to provide for student so just a little background. Stands for pre-employment transition services for students with disabilities or pre-employment transition services and it was created as part of the workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act so I basically just trying to help students get jobs After High School so what is Prius Prius is a coordinated or coordinate I'm going to read this so I guess in a simplistic way so excuse me if I'm looking at my paper more often I just want everybody understand so it's Priya to the coordinated activities for a student with a disability or in other words you spell exception ality because we know it's there not disable they just have a different way of learning design with outcome-oriented process that promotes movement from school supposed collectivities including post-secondary education vocational training continuing and adult education Adult Services Independent Living Community participation the big one competitive in the grated employment so I'm available Statewide so it's not just in one area it is provided other at other schools and it's of a go to all students who need the services at no cost to the school so broke services at mr. Roberts and explain his partner with the Louisiana rehabilitation services or lrs to provide these preit services with disabilities or like I said students with exceptionality so when can I begin receiving the services Prius activities can begin with the student request or as recommended by one or recommended for 10 more services and documentation of an IEP the 504 or sign a document signed by a medical professional that explains I do have a disability all of those kids are able to receive the services so when it comes to the services it includes five activities and that job exploration counseling work-based learning experiences counseling on 34 Roman and comprehensive transition or post-secondary educational programs at institutions for higher education which basically is faster college applications and career options resources to support students and also instruction and self advocacy so we want to promote the advocacy and also leadership skills for students and that's basically what the whole program is and again it's for our students who have a 504 and I P or any student that has an actual medical medical sign documentation that has a disability or an exceptionality at one of the thing because I seen here tonight you want to for just a few minutes about your coding Grant Louisiana I'll he's making his way to the podium like to say thank you to Courtney's toward me and Mister Robinson want your work good afternoon my name is Eric Louis with bad words for the past year we've been working with Park Ridge academic magnet and Baker Heights Elementary providing monthly stem program me I believe also work with that guy hides the the garden as well and then the past two summers with work and the stem The Sensational Academy providing stem program is because during the summer so we announced last week that we were awarded a $15,000 Grant to provide professional development for teachers right K through 8 and so it'll be focused on helping teachers and students to integrate Cody across the curriculum and of course subjects Ela math science and social studies and so the idea it would be that each semester the kids would have a Capstone project that coding page but that's tied to the work that they've done in that particular subject Foundation is organization based in Boston that has a free web page holding tool that we've been using with the students across the district for the last couple years but really excited about this is about teachers I'm in again the first in the game hitting the stem learning and opportunities in Co I would like to say also that stem program this summer we had 300 students at Oakridge the awesome awesome program is the attendance was real good and his belly y'all did an awesome job and where's mr. Craig they found at the high school that you think they have been washing down the schools are you allowed to stay until things have been done but we have had summer school this whole summer between the high school and the the Middle School Park Ridge and at the bank b a kids over there so the last 2 weeks that's basically when the school start getting empty from summer school so I just want to say thank you all y'all been doing dinner awesome job this summer and I Joy Dairy Queen that's all I have I just want to Echo what is a pompous said about the same station oh Charter interim superintendent is Candace Bailey faculty and staff of the 2023 Spring Station Academy like mrs.
