April 1st through 5th with national assistant principals week dr. Michelle Ellis Hill assistant principal at Baker High School celebrated by faculty and staff for all she does before we pray we would like to include the family of Ulysses Joseph who passed away April 3rd 2024 mr. Joseph served as interim superintendent of the city of baker school system 2011 and then as superintendent from 2012 to 2015 so we will be praying for that family tonight and mr. Joseph will be missed I have to pee measure meeting him on occasion and he was a very very kind man so we are very grateful for all of the labor and his service to the city of baker school system we were call Ro mrs. Perkins mrs. profit here miss Butler that's it for now and mrs. purchase present we have a quorum and we will proceed with tonight's meeting now that I've asked Mr Warren Drake if he would do a I'm meditation and I'm asked Ms danaya ambra Lambo Mr Nia Amber she's a student at Parkridge and cheese in the 8th grade I have asked the Nia if she would lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance you make Stan everything a man a man one nation under God indivisible with liberty thank you both and mrs. Joseph passed you on the meeting we have a full meeting tonight and you all look absolutely beautiful I want to welcome you to city of baker school board meeting for the month of April and we ask that you enjoy yourself and after you have been recognized if you care to slip out while we meet you're welcome to or if you'd like you're welcome to stay okay I will first recognition will be the one pictures of the march of the math Madness competition Mister Eric Lewis would you please approach the podium good evening everyone. Derrick Lewis with Baton Rouge than we've been partnering with the school district for the last three years of providing stem programming at Baker Heights and then Park Ridge academic magnet this past March we a program called math Madness which is based off the March Madness basketball tournament and so we paired the kids up and brackets and they competed in a math competition with the prize being that the winners we have boys and girls bracket they have a basketball and so the winners after winning were treated to a trip to the Pelicans versus the Boston Celtics basketball game however the whole point was to again like the connection between math and what's going on in the real world and so we want to also acknowledge them on behalf of dr. Matthews Baton Rouge them and the board here in your school system 6th grade boys winner was mr. Brent Brennan Bryant who's also in the band with the middle Anna High School fifth grade girls winter was Chloe Washington I 7th grade boys winner was mr. Justin Green are 7th grade girls winter was Miss Lincoln bourgeois all right I hate bright boys Wednesday if a Boys winner with the Devon Hudson and then I asked grade girls winter was sitting area Jordan before we take a group picture I would like to acknowledge Miss Cynthia Grimes is she nearby Cynthia Cynthia has a has a opportunity to partner with McDonald's and the Sydney has come up with this amazing idea and the name of it is I was doing good hi Miss Cynthia is here tonight to award all of the student that will be receiving Awards tonight with a gift from McDonald's and McDonald's is an no supporter of education and they awarded students as much as $10,000 scholarships to students so we want to say thank you to Miss Cynthia and we appreciate you coming on board tonight can we take a group picture okay I will next recognitions will go to graduate a rosebud Training Academy certified nursing assistant CNA program under the leadership of doctor maybe in the future Obama sticky thank you hello hello hello everyone we are proud to announce that we are finished CNA program we have 16 graduates we started with 18 and two of the students day on the exit exit Baker High School that's the only reason why they did not graduate I'm going to all the persons that are in the program however the ones that are here. Kennedy Alexandra Kennedy is a valedictorian Jasmine the Nala Brown Brianna Cleary for Kendall and done an Ava hey Stephanie Jones Melissa Loma Brianna Ariane McDowell Brianna Montgomery AL Kentavious these ladies have completed their CNA and they will sit for that board certification sometime in May amazing faces that are critical and gray they did that krunkles at grace these ladies swim above and beyond and they are most of them are pursuing careers in healthcare and we are excited about him part on Baton Rouge General has committed to do open house with them at both of their campuses also Miss Vicky you're celebrating five years they will be graduating and restore church on Saturday on Sunday I'm sorry it will be graduating every store church on Sunday which is rosebuds 50th anniversary and they are the fifth grade skip class graduating in my first High School class graduated and with that being said my first High School class graduating I am now eligible because of them to become Statewide to become Statewide Rosebud will be Statewide in schools and cuddle with them okay let's get a picture I remember Baker did that people don't like that short there's so many good things happening in the city of Baker's schools and we are so proud of these young ladies you know most of the time when I have spoken with CNAs they said it was a grandmother at all who is the reason that they decided they wanted to be caregivers and we are so proud of these young ladies and their accomplishment okay next on the agenda we have student of the year one more thing Miss Cynthia Grimes also has awards for the CNAs on this side if you all don't forget that CNAs don't forget that there's a gift for you from the McDonald's company NeXT on the agenda we have student of the year teacher of the year and support employee of the year and retirees dr. Smothers good evening everyone it is always a great moment to be a part of this this part of the program and on the agenda when we get now 282 recognize Excellence within the city of baker school system I'm always honor to stand to represent Baker schools and I'm always honored to represent our teachers are a student hours support employees all's everyone that's involved in the work of the city of baker school system so this evening we would celebrate our student teachers and support employees of the year as well as honor recognize our retirees to receive such an honor is a testament to our honorees that dedication to Excellence and it means that they care about the quality of their work as students at teachers and support employees and most importantly they are consistent and doing great work they are celebrated by their school leaders and staff and today we to recognize they're excellent we will begin with our Student of the Year Mr John Aerosmith with come forward to proceed with our student celebration doctor Smothers we are so very proud and excited for these proceed these are five individual so we have to fifth graders moving up to middle school next year we have two middle school students moving up to high school next year and then we have a high-school student who's going on Beyond or heard so I would like to first start with the little ones and we'll start with our Baker High are Baker Heights Elementary School student of the year 5th Grade Student in Antoine is he here today yeah man congratulations sir just doctors administer do you want to come over principal alright graduation payday our fifth grade Park Ridge academic Magnet School student of the year mrs. Zoe Joseph is she here in the building all right house of Baker Middle School 8th grade student of the year is Catherine here this afternoon no I didn't think I saw her but congratulations and I know our next to the is here because she recited the pledge for us to see you eighth grade Parkridge student Miss banaya ambo congratulations one more hour High School Baker High School student of the year 12th grade student congratulations Sara Evans awesome job oh I guess you have we have other pictures taken in so that's why I a parts I will say I do and up next to tell us who are teachers of the year are great doctor Smothers thank you mr. Aerosmith teachers of the year the call to educate to teach to mentor to lead to counsel to care to care for two step port to help and to encourage is one that is truly held with the highest regard that our teachers possess all of these qualities our teachers possessed him and they make a difference change the lives of students every day today we celebrate our teachers of the year to receive this honor is remarkable and speaks to their dedication their inspiration and their go for teaching and learning half of the city of baker school system today we say thank you to our teachers of the Year thank you for making a difference and thank you for the difference our elementary teacher of the year is mrs. Pamela Dawson Miss Dalton please come forward mrs. Olson is a kindergarten teacher at Baker Heights Elementary and prams Park Ridge academic magnet school she is a phenomenal teacher her children love her and she loves her children thank you mrs. Dawson for going above and beyond and the extra mile and ensuring our students excellence our Middle School teacher of the year is mr. Tori Williams please come forward mr. Williams mr. Williams is also a phenomenal teacher in fact mr. Williams has been in this fishing in 2021 I believe it was as Middle School teacher of the year he continues to consistently bring for excellence in the teaching and learning I said so we want to celebrate mr. Williams today congratulations mr. Williams he supports our he leads our Middle School and apartment as well as stem classes he is phenomenal in this work teacher of the year is mrs. Nakia Wilson Nelson congratulations 2 Mrs Nelson she is phenomenal as well in this great work of teaching and learning she supports our Career and Technical education at Baker High School we are absolutely excited and celebrating the great work of mrs. Nelson thank you mrs. Nelson our next recognition recognition category is support employee of the year and Mrs Bailey is going to take that category of Celebration good evening along with celebrating our teachers we're going to celebrate our support employees some of these employees are the first people to arrive the school in the morning they're the first people that your child sees are after they leave you from home I'll some of them when they're late checking in or they need to check in they are the first people that you see to school do it this time I want to I give recognition to our first honoree which is mr. Christopher Stevens who is a middle school sodium congratulations okay so then we have our Baker Heights support in of the year and this person I have to say she was the first person some of your students saw even during our summer months and a regular school year because she was you're directing out before and after care at 6 a.m. every morning and did not miss a day she is our Pre-K paraprofessional Miss Shante Isley Lewis our next Honore is the person that you see as soon as you in the doors of Baker High and she told me today when she answers the phone she said something has to be wrong with these earphones Miss Bailey because they're only hear me say hello and they're missing the part about Baker High check into those headphones but none other than Miss Jill Taylor Jill Taylor has been with the city of baker school system for over 20 years gratulations and our last but not least on the support employee honorees I can't think this person enough I do we fuss every day every single day but miss Terry Johnson mysterious I'll Transportation manager and all of us transportation problems that they go to her first and then come to me last but we fight it out and we get it done and I thank her everyday congratulations again to all of our support employees of the year at this time I'm going to turn it over to dr. hill with represent our retirees good evening it is an honor for me to present the award to our retirees tonight and I don't think the one is here but if they had been here this is what I would have told them thank you for your dedication and commitment to the city of baker school system congratulations on your retirement and all the incredible years of war you invested to get to this point and it is wonderful to see someone as deserving as the two of you and remember to put the same effort into your free time as you put into your career once again thank you for all of your hard work and dedication and I are retirees or Miss Rita Harrison and Mr Henry Knox and we would just like to tell them once again congratulations in their absence and both finish their Journey here as custodians Baker Heights Elementary School ring the bell for him school is out for mr. Hill mr. Williams mrs. Stewart music mr. McAllister did a fantastic job by the way okay and Miss Mack mrs. Mac absolutely mrs. Mac did a wonderful job was always here to support us I will come i t support with depth there for that had great Insight dr. Russell Miss Benedict DiCaprio everyone arrived I just like to thank I will work in group that came together to support the Strategic plan and thanks to our superintendent also board president was also a part of this working group so it was always great to always great to work with her as we move in the right direction continue the movement in the right direction all right that's it thank you this is a beautiful strategic plan I know you see it on the screen here but the the working group actually did a fantastic job easier to read it not hard to read it all more images caption but you actually get the vision of the city of baker school system as we build Baker forward I want to talk cuz I was scrolling through here and look in the student enrollment when the working group met to develop this plan number 984 students and doctors mother is in Mr it might look at it this morning and they were one. 26 students in the district so we we believe what we think when we open up a new high school that number is probably going to go up as well we're kind of trying you know what we're going to do with students and a lot of that is going to depend on what is that enrollment in grades 9 through 12 so depending on what that enrollment does in grades 9 through 12 what kind of help guide on where we place just do and buildings so thank you thank you everybody that put in work for this this is a this is a document to be proud of and thank you so much for your vision for the city Baker School System I know it's a it's an ongoing process thinking about the great things that will happen in this District so we appreciate you we pray for you and your family. Charles Lizzie a with the advocate this is a beautiful plan and I wish you would take some aspects of the strategic planning promoted in our district because sometimes that's pretty much but people have people know about us is by reading the paper so thank you may I get a motion for the approval of the city of baker school system strategic plan 2024 through 2029 emotion consideration and approval of the city of baker school system stripped its strategic plan 2024 to 929 I have a second but I would like the correction I asked you to do. Joseph okay Joseph Chapman the motion carries for the approval of the city of Baker system strategic plan 2020 for 2029 information item so you have in your packet my Personnel report for the the current month has only two two people to report in that before it so you can talk to me after the board meeting if you have questions on that as you can see when you go down on groom Road what is the most beautiful thing you see on groom road I'll answer for you the building of Baker High School that's exciting I've been in the Bay City or Baker almost 40 years and when the flood happened you know that was something that people talking about all the time when is it going to happen you know that was the thing I was at everybody's mind right missing the castle when is this going to happen now it's happening and it's an exciting time to see this community rev back since we are building our high school so we have our partners with csrs to give us an update believe me guys it's happening I was in the school about I think it was Monday last week the classrooms are beautiful everything is just really really nice Stuart Construction I'm doing a really good job but I'm not going to continue I'm going to let Mister Brad continue now we did we had a great visit last week thank you for attending and we have my name is Brian but I'm with csrs where the management team that's overseeing the construction maintaining that relationship between the contractor architect and the and the owner you guys we are very privileged to be a part of this we have been managing the site we've been going out to the job site weekly forecast in update meetings with the contractors with the with the design team in and with the school system here as well the project is moving along that is no lie it's a wee wee Speck substantial completion which means the building basically will be ready for occupancy currently as tracking July 18th start school the first week of August we've we've got together and thank you Miss Russell dr. Russell for your hard-working bring together a Furniture payment plan that furniture plant has been purchase orders have been issued and we are awaiting delivery times on that so we can coordinate with the contractor so that we are installing furniture and getting ready the start of school I would just like to add that that the time frame that we turned for the furniture fixtures and equipment is impressive as I'm sure you know because because that was not part of the original. kind of this project so we when we found out we had to turn down a really short. Of time so thanks to csrs for dogs. Thank you all for your help as well because that is a very large package it's a very large school and there's a lot of pieces and parts in it I'll save this if you don't like anything in it it's my fault if you like it it's all dr. Russell know we had a great time getting us together we did move very quick there's some beautiful stuff going into this building y'all are going to be excited I can tell you currently we basically we have our Transformer delivered to the site and installed by energy so I don't know if you recall previous conversations we had a little bit of issue with that that thing is in there running feeders to the from the pole to the transfer and we're working to get power to the building by the end of the month and what that means is we start doing interior finishes you start seeing floors you start seeing ceiling tiles you start seeing pain so by the end of this month the first part of of next month should be seeing finishes going in if you get an opportunity if you have enough to it if you want an opportunity I can definitely leave a tour through it but seeing some of the tile tile and some of the existing restroom and was and what it is now is is unbelievable you're going to be impressed it's really an incredible facility the the back Courtyard area where the cafeteria looks for students to gather we got a beautiful furniture package that's going in there that's going to actually enhance that space as well we have to go on with the brick work site work is being done it's being when you hear somebody saying dressed up besides being leveled to getting ready for landscape at every opportunity that I have found two to provide some benefits back to the campus whether there are still some things that that I'm looking for a different way to get credits back we're looking to if there's some work that we need to get done and hadn't been done to make this a better up so that they were looking at that we're working with our contractors and Architects to analyze it currently make sure that it's right in appropriate for the space we're looking at some of the parking spots that were deemed to be removed that we may keep some for the it makes more sense in the front of the building to have some of that adjacent parking home pricing for some new lights in the gym that wasn't was wasn't in there that I think is very crucial for the project so we're working through some of that every opportunity that that's available we're looking to take advantage of so we continue to work and visit the site we very attentive to detail I'm going back to the drawings are going back to change orders I'm looking at every angle to make sure we're we're not losing any Integrity of this project but we're getting as much as we possibly can get we've initiated some additional work to clean the building little bit more efficiently I'll wash some of the existing stuff some of those columns that were in the front with a little dirty going to take care of those again just every aspect of it we walked that weekly completely to look at every piece of it and and then to make sure that we get in the best project so as Miss Burgess alluded to this is coming we can't stop it now so we look forward to getting it getting it delivered on time and on budget well it's definitely a different architectural style e got the new construction is more modern more contemporary stuff and that the older existing stuff is a is a historic architecture hayestown so you got a enough to restore it to me it will compliment that you it will be a very complimentary style together along with the with the company doing the welding equipment could you make my day so basically work we're getting ready to go as soon as the construction team gives us a go-ahead we have some folks ready to go in and clean it up and paint it and get it ready for Supply it but we're just waiting on the the go-ahead from the construction crew release all to get in there and I do want to add that there will be a walkthrough with representative Graves this coming Monday at 9 a.m. the board is welcome to attend it will be it will be a showcase walkthrough it will not be working walkthrough so we won't be asked construction or the architecting bunch of questions will just it's basically it's just letting some of the public officials I believe the mayor might be their representative Graves might be there we might have some some local Representatives like representative Adams and representative Carpenter that might be there and the board's welcome to attend so that's that's this coming Monday the 22nd at 9 a.m. that's pretty much the gist of it and then again we're moving and we will stay on top of it and make sure we could just go to complete it so any other questions the front of the school will you talk about your power washing and everything is there going to be any painting this going to be done in the front of the school or because yeah the picture of the front and right in the front but we it's originally it was painted red and in the scope of work that it wasn't included in there but I requested I've been going to do it we going to think that straight that red stripe on there were going to take care of that the metal and then basically they won't be till be painting of the metal of the gymnasium the metal panels on the wall power washing in some painting asking stop in there and then mostly power washing of any of the concrete to get rid of any of that mildew it's cuz that stuff wasn't painted before basic are natural natural finish to restore that natural finish I'm going to say that because it's really needs to be I recognize the need to make that highlighted thank you so much and your other question I feel cuz that's what I'm working on trying to redo our whole this point Sometimes some things can't be added to the agenda it could be because of time or you know it's not an action item but here is an opportunity for boys who's to say whatever they want to say ask whatever questions they want to ask him, so the board you think about there, for just a second so the the Monday of spring break I was visiting my kids and green jobs in Montana gotten an email from CBS Evening News that said they wanted to call and do an interview with me they were doing a story on they were looking to do a story on infrastructure and American so Mark Strassman with CBS Evening News if you watch CBS Evening News you probably seen Mark Strassman and his executive producer was researching schools in America because they wanted to do a story on infrastructure and how they feel like schools within a community or a good representation of the infrastructure of the community which is correct so they they narrowed it down to two schools in the US in Baker Louisiana don't know how they found us and a school district in West Virginia and so they called and and researched it and executive producer said when they when she research base when she saw what was happening in Baker and the the direction that we were headed in the things that we were doing she knew that this was the story that she wanted to do so Monday and Tuesday of this week had to clear my schedule because CBS Evening News came in and are planning to run a story next month on Baker Louisiana and school infrastructure so stay tuned for that and I must ask you that when I asked her how did you narrow this down to Baker Louisiana she said of course she had searched all over the country and she narrowed it down to West Virginia and Louisiana and when she heard about the good thing that's why you have to always keep it positive God cuz you never ever know who's watching I mean CD National how can we ever even knowing it have anticipated that and when they heard about the good thing and when they read the vision of mr. J T stroller they knew that the city of Baker school system is who they wanted to interview so we're very happy about that and I just give God all the glory for that like I said this is not a church but you know if you're a Christian you're going to get some praise the God right now okay as I said our next meeting is Mesa this is your time to shine okay no comments I would like to entertain a motion for adjournment a second you motion of Miss Perfect I have a motion I have emotion from mrs.
